By Kathleen Collins

As a horse owner, its health is the priority. Animals with navicular horses ill can be a challenge but it is important to know that this is not a reason to put them down or assume that they will never be on the track again. Such conditions can be treated easily and with care and patience, the horse will be back to its old self in no time.

Vets are there for a reason and it is important to make use of them as often as you can. If you see a problem and notice that it is progressing, don t wait any longer. One of the signs you can look for is whether the horse is trying to avoid their front legs. When you go to the vet, they will probably do an x-ray and other physical assessments to try and figure out what the problem is.

If the diagnoses is as you thought, you will now need to make sure that you have everything you need so they are comfortable. One of the items you need to get made is special shoes for their hooves. The reason for this is they will try to land on the toes often instead of the heel which is where the pain is, and this can cause sever discomfort. These shoes will help them to feel less pain and enable them to walk and stand properly.

Before you get the shoes made, try to get the exact size of the hoof to the manufacturer as soon as you can. Many makers assume that it is the same size for all breeds in the same group but this is not true and you could be ordering something that is too big or too small and this can cause even more discomfort to the stallion, not to mention the admin of you getting a new one done.

After you confirm the shoe and have the right size, you can now start with the next step of the treatment process. It is important to keep the steed going and not standing on his legs until it gets better, also it won t be able to recover without exercise. Be sure of what exercises you are doing so that you are not causing harm. The idea is that they don t use much of their front legs.

If you are not knowledgeable on the subject, it will be best to rather use an expert in this field. Keep in mind that you are working with an animal s health and well-being, which means that you cannot do the bare minimum and expect a recovery. Using an expert means that the steed will get the best care and the right care to get over its condition in the fastest time, with no harm or pain to them.

Apart from your trainer, you need to also keep other aliases on hand such as a vet that has experience with treating steeds of this nature, as well as a specialist. You may not know the extent of the condition and there could be a time where you may need to get help or seek advice. It is best to speak to people who know what they are doing.

Such ailments are common and can happen at any time which is why you need to make sure that you have the right teams in place, and that you understand what it means and how to cure it.
