Useful And Essential Facts About Queens NY Hernia

By Debra Perry

The term hernia is a general term used to refer to a condition where tissue or other body organs bulge though the structures that are meant to contain them. Any body organ can herniate. For example the brain tissue as well as the spine discs can herniate without discrimination. This is what Queens NY Hernia is all about.

The most common type of hernia is abdominal herniation. This condition happens as a result of muscular tissues of the abdomen becoming weak and opening up. This results to the abdominal cavity lining to come out through the opening. This ends with the abdominal walls bulging out. Tightening of abdominal muscles results in increased pressure in the abdomen, making the bulge more visible.

Hernias are always made worse when people engage in activities that increase intra-abdominal pressure. Such activities include coughing, lifting, and even straining when urinating or having bowel movement. Abdominal hernias sometimes cause intestines and other abdominal organs to protrude through. When tissues become trapped through the opening, the medical complication that results is called incarceration.

Incarceration is usually a medical emergency that must be dealt with as soon as it occurs. What makes incarceration serious is that it causes blood supply to the trapped organs to be stopped. Once blood supply is stopped or cut, the organs that are incarcerated may be damaged or they may die. Surgery is usually the only way of correcting this medical situation.

Abdominal hernia has a very high prevalence. Actually, statistics show that 10 percent of Americans normally suffer from this problem at least once in their life. This problem can occur to both women and men. Also, people of all ages can be affected by this condition, ranging from the elderly to adults and infants and children. Although this condition can affect both men and women, men tend to be more prone to it when compared to women.

Abdominal types of hernia usually occur around the groin area in most cases. There are a number of factors why this occurs. The first factor for the groin area to be more likely to be affected by the condition is due to its natural anatomical weakness. There is incomplete muscle coverage in the abdominal area, thus making the area weak and more vulnerable to rapturing or having openings. A small opening usually expands to become big with time leading to very serious health issues.

Another reason for the groin area to be predisposed to abdominal hernia is due to the natural upright position humans maintain when they are standing up or sitting. In either position, more pressure is applied to the bottom of the abdomen. When high pressure is applied, it leads to more stress to the muscles in the groin area which are already weak. This pressure and stress leads to enlargement of the opening, causing tears which later lead to hernias.

Currently, there are various types of abdominal hernias. There are certain types of hernias that co-occur. The most common types of hernias are the naval, ventral and femoral hernias. Femoral hernias can be placed into two additional classes, that is, direct and indirect hernias. The main symptoms of major types of hernia include swelling and pain in the area where they are occurring.
