It enables you to increase your faith and also draw closer to God. However, the success of retreats is based on how you prepare. Here are tips to enable you prepare and get the most out of the recollections.

Choose the right recollection facility. Not all facilities will deliver to your expectations regardless of the promises made. You need a quiet place that allows you to recollect and reflect on the issues bothering you. Go out of town where people or noise will not distract you. A place where you will not be tempted to pay attention to your daily chores is recommended. It should give you enough time to stay alone and reflect.

The timing for your recollection must be right. There are moments in a year when you have a lot of responsibilities that can rarely be delegated. There are also instances when the mind and body and too tired to stay still. If you are needed for an AGM or your children have a school activity, you will never concentrate. Choose a time when the chances of distraction are minimal. It allows both the body and mind to settle down into recollection.

Your intentions must be defined. It is impossible to go for a retreat without intentions. No issue will be resolved if it is not clearly defined. They could be social relationships, marital troubles, your faith and such other concerns. Present them to God and use the right scriptures, songs and materials to reflect upon them.

The mind must also settle in the presence of God. This happens as a deliberate act. You must delegate important duties in your life. The body and mind must be ready for the reflections. Keep off distractions like music and messengers. Practice stillness, being quiet and singing to get into the presence of God.

Connect with God. This happens through scripture reading, meditation on psalms, prayer and such activities. Have a list of engagements that will bring you closer to God. Worship the Lord and listen to what He is telling you. You might engage a spiritual leader who will guide you through the process. You must be extremely genuine to effectively connect with God. If there are issues between you and God, the connection will break.

Plan your retreat to allow the mind to relax. It might be impossible for you to stay still and concentrate for an entire day. Other than force the body or mind to do the impossible, it is advisable that you break your sessions into a manageable schedule. Take a walk, cup of your favorite beverage, water or an activity that takes your mind off reflections.

Retreats should have a desired future in mind. Plan for that before you begin on reflections. This includes the habits you are willing to drop and new ones you intend to take up. Unless change occurs in your daily routine and life, it will be impossible to grow. Evaluate areas where you lost your path and how you should find it. Create checks and balances to keep you invigorated in faith.
